CHILDREN and older people in Leeds are set to benefit from a move to source more foods locally.

Leeds City Council is set to transform meals it offers with a move to try to provide local seasonal fresh fruit and vegetables.

The new contract, worth £470,000, rising to approximately £750,000 per year, is aimed at encouraging local producers.

The council serves 7.5m meals at 274 education sites, 48 social service establishments and 10 leisure centres.
