Councillors have been advised to assess the economic impact of closing public toilets.

Clr Ken Sims, Conservative for Holme Valley South asked Labour Cabinet members if they’d assessed the parking income loss of closing public toilets in Holmfirth.

Clr Peter McBride, Cabinet member for Place, said: “No because I don’t think there will be. We’ve closed public toilets in Huddersfield and that hasn’t stopped people shopping there.”

Clr Sims said he thought the decision would “put tourists off visiting” and added: “We’ve the Tour de France next year and the visitors will need toilets.”

Kirklees Cabinet voted to close 11 public toilets to save more than £150,000.
