AN empty building which has become a magnet for young vandals will be converted to a day care centre.

Oakes Villa in Lindley has not been used since its day care centre closed last year.

Clr Christine Stanfield, who represents the area on Kirklees, hopes it will reopen soon.

The Lib Dem said: “The building has been empty for a year and I have received many complaints from people living nearby about young people congregating there.

“The building and garden furniture have been damaged.

“Empty buildings are a magnet for this sort of thing, so I know people will be relieved when it’s back in use.”

Clr Stanfield outlined plans for Oakes Villa.

She said: “The ground floor will provide a much-needed resource for older people and the top floor will house two teams of home care workers.

“The work is due to start this spring and finish in the autumn.”
