BOOKIES and bingo halls will soon come under the control of councillors.
Kirklees Council will take responsibility for gambling licenses next September .
A new council policy approved on Wednesday aims to ensure betting is fair, crime-free and kept away from children.
But Lib Dem councillor John Smithson sounded a warning note.
He said: "We know that the more gambling there is, the more serious problems we will have, such as divorce and family neglect.
"I feel we need to proceed with this policy with extreme caution."
