COUNCIL chiefs from across Yorkshire have vowed to work together to attract more investment.

The leaders of Barnsley, Bradford, Calderdale, Craven, Harrogate, Kirklees, Leeds, North Yorkshire, Selby, Wakefield and York councils have stepped up their commitment to harness the region's economic growth potential.

A meeting of the Leeds City Region Leaders was held in Huddersfield to discuss how they could better work together to make the region more competitive.

But they heard that they face several barriers as the region partners make the move from developing strategies to delivering action.

The councillors agreed to bi-monthly meetings to provide political leadership.

Leader of Kirklees Council, Clr Kath Pinnock, chaired the meeting. She said: "I hope the agreed approach will provide greater policy and fiscal focus on the city region as well as provide for greater democratic accountability and political leadership over the economic agenda."
