AN invitation to enjoy the countryside has come from Kirklees Council.
Kirklees Countryside Unit has published its spring and summer walks programme which lists events from the start of May through to the end of October.
The publication has been renamed Wild About Countryside in Kirklees and is packed with things to do outdoors including events at Oakwell Hall Country Park, Birstall, and up-to-date information on the growing network of greenways.
John Gleadow, Kirklees Countryside Access Officer, said: "Over the last few years exercise has gone to the top of the agenda. What better place to take your regular exercise than in the great outdoors in Kirklees?"
The first walk is on May 2 - Northern frontier country.
This is described as a 9.5-mile medium walk - quite hilly and probably wet in places. Meet Margaret at 10am by the school on Station Lane, Birkenshaw (grid ref 205 288). Get there by bus from Dewsbury 255 (get off at Old Lane and walk up it to Station Lane), or 253 (check bank holiday bus times).
The second walk is on May 4 - through Hopton Woods to Whitley.
This is described as a 4 to 4.5- mile medium family walk. Meet Gabrielle at 7pm outside Mirfield railway station for a pleasant evening walk along lanes, woodland and farmland (likely to be muddy). Get there by bus from Huddersfield 203, 209, 219, 262. Batley bus 219. Dewsbury 203, X62.
