The countdown has begun to Mirfield’s big day out.

This year’s Mirfield Show – the 20th in its current form – will be held on Sunday (August 17) and up to 10,000 people are expected.

The marquees have started going up at Mirfield Showground in Huddersfield Road.

Star attractions will be family stunt and escapology team Stannage International.

Show chairman Karen Bullivant said: “I have now been chairman for seven years and again I am proud that the team have pulled together another entertaining family show with more competitions, attractions, stalls and exhibits than ever before.

“And it’s not just in the main ring but all over the showground and in the marquees.

“This year we celebrate the 20th Mirfield Agricultural Show since it was resurrected back in 1995 by a small group of Mirfield movers and shakers.

“They set out to create the event you see today and their ethos, which is very much still with the current committee, was to provide a fun, affordable and educational family day out – and we are especially proud to say that it still remains free for all children.”

The day begins at 9am with the Horse and Pony Show in the main ring, followed by The Pulse Music Stage, the stalls and attractions from 10am.

Judging begins across the flower, vegetable, domestic, children’s, rabbits and eggs from 11am before the official opening at noon.

The ever-popular fun dog shows also start at noon in ring two and the tug-of-war in the main ring from 1.30pm. The show closes at 4.30pm.

The West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Band will also perform playing a variety of music from military classics to pop.

Tickets and programmes continue to be sold from The Melting House Chocolate Shop and Ramsden’s Butchers in Huddersfield Road.

Entrance is £3.50 for adults in advance and £5 on the day. Children are free.
