A COUPLE killed in a horror crash had married only hours earlier.

It emerged today that Zoe and Paul Williams wed at Huddersfield Register Office last Friday afternoon.

In the early hours of Saturday morning the Newsome couple died instantly in a motorway tragedy.

They were rear seat passengers in a Ford Escort which careered off a slip road joining the M1 with the M62 at Lofthouse just before 3am.

Paul, 35, had three children by a previous relationship and Zoe had two, Ellis and Beth.

Paul's sister, 32-year-old Sonia, said the family had been left devastated.

"Paul was just a great guy and a lot of fun," she said.

"He was caring, considerate, loved life and his kids.

"It's a really hard time for all of us. We are so shocked. He was such a big part of our family."

Paul had been badly hurt in another car accident in Huddersfield earlier this year, but had recovered from his injuries.

He died in Saturday's crash when the car he and Zoe were in careered through a barrier and steel fence.

It then plummeted over a banking before bursting into flames.

Zoe, 32, also died at the scene.

Two men - a 23-year-old from Newsome and a 25-year-old from Sheepridge - were also in the car.

The 25-year-old is in a serious but stable condition after surgery at Leeds General Infirmary.

The other was allowed home on Saturday after treatment for minor injuries.

Police have confirmed that two men were arrested in connection with the incident and given police bail pending further inquiries.

No other vehicle was involved in the tragedy.

It is understood that Zoe - whose surname before Friday was Crowther - and Paul had spent their wedding day in Huddersfield after the ceremony.

Later on they headed over to a Leeds nightclub with friends to carry on the celebrations.

The tragedy happened while they were heading back to Huddersfield and their home on Newsome Road in Newsome.

Zoe was a special needs teacher.

Her funeral will be held at Huddersfield Crematorium next Wednesday at noon.

Paul's funeral will be held at Dalton Baptist Church next Tuesday at 12.30pm.

He is one of four children.

They are Sonia, who now lives in Bradford, and Val and Tony who live in Huddersfield.

The family home is in Dalton.
