A COUPLE who met on a bus while travelling to work have celebrated their golden wedding.

Philip and Evelyn Laidlaw, of Paddock, West Slaithwaite, were married at Slaithwaite Parish Church, three years after that meeting on the bus.

Mrs Laidlaw was on her way to work as a tailoress in Huddersfield while her husband was off to his office job at Alfred Crowther plumbers' merchants.

Mrs Laidlaw worked for three tailoring firms. Her husband spent 40 years at Crowther's, retiring as office manager.

They have a son, Martyn, a daughter, Heather, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr Laidlaw played cricket for Broad Oak and is a bowler at Marsden. His wife enjoys crafts and helps at Marsden Parish Church.

They celebrated with a trip on the Orient Express to Carlisle and a family meal out.
