Police are appealing for witnesses to a road rage and hate crime attack in Crosland Moor.

The victims were passengers in a black Vauxhall Astra being driven along College Street between 12.10pm and 12.20pm last Saturday, October 11. At a narrow point of the road the Astra came up against a grey Peugeot 207 with space for only one vehicle to pass.

There was a standoff before a man in the Peugeot got out and made a racist remark. The rear-seat passenger in the Astra got out of the vehicle to ask them to move, but the attacker punched him in the face, causing a swollen lip.

A woman driving the Peugeot also approached the Astra front passenger’s window and grabbed the woman inside by the throat, causing reddening and soreness.

Police inquiries revealed that the grey Peugeot 207 had been stolen from the Scarborough area earlier this month.

The male attacker is white, aged in his 50s, between 6ft 3ins and 6ft 4ins tall, slim with a skinny face and short, brown hair. He was wearing a short sleeved top and blue jeans.

The woman attacker is also white, in her 40s, around 5ft 5ins tall, of medium build, with shoulder-length uncombed hair, a ‘chubby’ face and small eyes. She was wearing a black hoody, blue jeans and black trainers.

Both suspects are described as having slurred speech.

Pc Khalid Sadiq, from Huddersfield Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We take any reports of hate offences extremely seriously and are keen to speak to anyone who has witnessed any part of this incident or who has any information about the occupants of the grey Peugeot or the vehicle’s movements after this incident.”

Anyone with information should call Huddersfield NPT on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
