A COUPLE who fell in love after meeting at a dance are celebrating their golden wedding.
Malcolm and Pauline Boyes were married at St Stephen’s Church in Kirkstall on June 10, 1961.
They had met five years earlier at a dance at the Majestic Ballroom in Leeds.
Mrs Boyes spotted her future husband while out with a friend who was dating his brother.
The pair moved to Mirfield after their wedding.
There they bought a new house on West Royd Avenue and have lived there ever since.
Mr Boyes worked as a telecommunications engineer for local mills and then later British Gas.
His wife worked as a dressmaker before becoming a telephone operator for the Post Office in Huddersfield and at exchanges in Dewsbury and Mirfield. She later trained as a teacher in fashion and design before working at Kirklees Council as a housing officer.
The couple started the first playgroup at Mirfield Baptist Chapel as well as the Parents’ Association at the Free Grammar School.
Mrs Boyes was a town councillor and with her husband helped revive Mirfield Show after a gap of many years.
The couple have a son and daughter and six-year-old grandson Leo.
They are planning a holiday to Turkey and a weekend break with family.
