A MELTHAM couple have celebrated their diamond wedding.

Norman and Marie Brook, of Carlile Street, were married in Newark in 1943.

The couple met during the Second World War, while working in a factory in Newark.

Mrs Brook, originally from South Wales, had moved to Newark to work in the factory after spending time in service in Sussex.

Mr Brook, born in Honley, had been sent to Newark by the firm he worked for in Honley.

He could not join the forces because he was missing a finger.

The couple married and five years later moved back to the Huddersfield area.

They have two sons, one living in Meltham and the other living in Honley. The couple have eight grandchildren - two in Meltham and the others in the south of England.

The couple have three great-grandchildren, with a fourth on the way. They celebrated their special day with a party at Meltham Liberal Club.
