DALTON couple Terry and Olive Pogson have been celebrating their golden wedding.

Mr Pogson, 73, and his wife, 70, were married at Moldgreen Christ Church on September 25, 1954.

Mr Pogson lived on Northgate, Huddersfield, and his wife-to-be in Moldgreen.

They first met at an event in Greenhead Park in 1950, while Mr Pogson was on leave from National Service in the RAF.

The couple lost touch while he was in the Forces, but soon after he left in 1951, they met up again at a dance in the former Co-op hall on the former Buxton Road in the town centre.

After they married, the couple lived in Northgate for five years before moving to Coniston Avenue, where they still live.

Mr Pogson worked as a plasterer, a wholesale market trader and a lorry driver.

When the couple met, Mrs Pogson was a weaver at Crispin's mill in Moldgreen.

After that, she had a series of jobs in Huddersfield cafes and bars and with cleaning firms.

The couple have two sons and five grandchildren.

They celebrated the anniversary with their family on Saturday and are to go on a Spanish mini-cruise.
