A FORMER station officer at Slaithwaite fire station and his wife have celebrated their golden wedding.
Brian Boothroyd, 72, worked as a firefighter all over Yorkshire for 27 years.
He also spent five years with the Duke of Wellington's Regiment during the Korean War.
After his fire brigade service, Mr Boothroyd was a driver for Co-op Funeral Services in St Thomas's Road, for 15 years.
He met his wife, Irene, at Oakes Youth Club when they were both about 15.
The couple, of Birkhouse Lane, Moldgreen, married at Salendine Nook Baptist Church.
Mrs Boothroyd, 71, worked in textiles as a "reacher in" at Wellington Mills, Oakes. After having children she was a dinner lady for 21 years.
The couple have three children, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Mr Boothroyd enjoys keeping fit and runs with Longwood Harriers two or three times a week.
The couple celebrated their anniversary with a family party.
