A HUDDERSFIELD couple are making a new bid for pop success

When casino event organiser Pawlo Lawriw discovered wife Angela was a talented singer, he pulled out all the stops to try to get her a chart hit.

And now they plan to record another single.

Pawlo and Angela, who have a six-month-old daughter, Megan, twice remortgaged their two-bedroomed home in School Street, Moldgreen, to pay for the recording and distribution of the first CD single.

Pawlo hired marketing firms Music House and Absolute Marketing Distribution to promote Truth Hurts, sung by Angela under the stage name Tia.

The single was released in HMV and Virgin record stores on April 19.

Pawlo said: "We went to HMV in Leeds and it was really amazing to see it on the shelf."

Although sales were low, the track was a hit with DJs, clubbers, local radio and dance radio stations.

Truth Hurts reached No 4 in a UK chart based on clubber's dancefloor responses and 31 in a similar worldwide chart.

The tune has also earned Angela her first live gig.

She sang for 40,000 people during half-time at the Leeds United v Everton game at Elland Road.

The success of Truth Hurts has encouraged Angela and Pawlo to release a second single.

It will be recorded soon at HD1 Studios, part of Beaumont Street Studios.

The track will be picked from an album of material written by the couple.

Huddersfield musicians will work with them to revamp the single and some of the other songs to create an R 'n' B/soul sound.

Pawlo added: "We don't want stardom or the big city; we just want to make good music."

But stardom may beckon anyway, as Truth Hurts has captured the interest of a producer who wants to create a video for the track and a documentary about the next single.

Meanwhile, Pawlo is putting his job on the back burner. He will promote Angela and recruit acts to his Rubicon record label.
