A COURSE in a striking form of embroidery is to be held at Oakwell Hall.

Blackwork embroidery has a rich history dating back many centuries.

It was associated with Moorish patterns, Chaucer and Catherine of Aragon, amongst others.

It is a technique of counted embroidery pattern in black threads on white fabric.

The Workers’ Educational Association is offering a short course in the craft at the Batley-based attraction.

This will introduce participants to the history of the technique, exploring how and why it was used.

There will also be opportunities to create individual designs, inspired by the hall’s building and surroundings.

All materials will be provided. The course will take place on three consecutive Saturdays from June 22.

All places need to be booked by June 12.
