THE drive to get young people speaking other languages is winning support from Huddersfield Technical College.

The college is providing a one-year, part-time course aimed at primary school teachers and students on teacher training who plan to teach basic French, German or Spanish.

Five schools from Kirklees and Calderdale have already joined the programme.

On completion of the course, participants will be able to teach basic language at key stages one and two.

No former knowledge of Spanish is required.

GCSE, or the equivalent, French and German is desirable, but not essential.

Anyone interested in joining the modern languages for primary school teachers course should phone Sabine Brady on 01484 536521, ext 7230.
