PATIENTS with chronic diseases are being asked to share their knowledge with other sufferers.

North Kirklees Primary Care Trust wants people with illnesses such as diabetes, asthma or arthritis to join its ExpertPatients' programme.

This involves patients attending a six-week course to learn how to manage their own conditions better.

The course will also teach them how to pass on their knowledge and advice to people with similar diseases.

ExpertPatients began in January this year and the next course will run from January 13, 2005, at the care trust's base in Bradford Road, Batley. The sessions will last from 10am to 12.30pm.

Marilyn Horton, the care trust's patient advice and liaison service manager, said: "The programme is already making a very positive contribution to local people suffering from chronic cond- itions. Participants have commented on how beneficial their new-found skills are."
