BUSINESSMAN Azam Yaqoob has lodged an appeal to save his £1m Mirfield mansion from demolition.

The appeal, lodged with the Planning Inspectorate in Bristol, could drag the whole saga on for many months.

Mr Yaqoob, 36, was ordered to rip down his dream house after it was built without meeting all the conditions of the planning permission.

Mr Yaqoob and his family have yet to move into the house in Huddersfield Road.

The nine-bedroomed home stands above surrounding properties.

Mr Yaqoob, who owns Mr Sparkles car wash at Webster Hill, Dewsbury, bought a mock Tudor house in Huddersfield Road for £293,000 in 2003.

He was given permission for an extension but demolished most of the original building and built virtually a new structure.

Councillors went against the advice of their planning officials in February and refused to give him retrospective planning permission.

Mr Yaqoob then vowed to take on the council in "every court in the land".
