A man has admitted getting behind the wheel whilst almost almost three times over the legal limit.

Raymond Starrett, of Peace Hall Drive in Fenay Bridge, appeared before Kirklees magistrates.

He pleaded guilty to the offence from April 24.

Prosecutor Alex Bozman explained that in the early hours of the morning police were called to Victoria Road in Lockwood.

There they found Starrett being treated by paramedics following a minor crash.

He handed the officers his keys and told them he’d lost his job. The 51-year-old appeared in drink and was arrested.

Police station breath tests revealed that he had 102 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

This was almost three times over the limit of 35 microgrammes.

Starrett said he’d been drinking at a local pub earlier that evening.

His solicitor Mohammed Arif explained that his vehicle then hit a kerb and he was in collision with a parked car.

Magistrates ordered a report from probation staff before sentencing Starrett.
