A MAJOR housing developer was interested in building in Cowlersley.

But it encountered difficulties with the land, despite it having planning consent.

Yesterday members of the Huddersfield Planning Sub-Committee agreed to extend the time limit of the consent they granted in 2009.

The Trustees of Sarah Lockwood have outline planning consent for land to the rear of 38-116 Cowlersley Lane.

Ray Valenti, agent for the application, said: “It is unfortunate we have had to bring it back for an extension of time.

“We have arranged long-term to sell the site and were talking to a major national house-builder shortly after who proposed to construct 50 low-rise family houses.

“The difficulty we encountered with the sale related to various trespasses on the site. We’ve put a fence up on the site to regulate that now.”

Councillors granted more time for the outline application to proceed.
