A COMMUNITY fundraising event in Mirfield raised thousands for a number of charities.

St Mary’s Parish Centre was home to an autumn craft fair on Saturday, where members of the community set up stalls to show off their display of unusual crafts and gifts.

The event was primarily in aid of St Mary’s Choir Guild in a bid to boost their funds, but other charities to benefit included MenCap, Dewsbury Hospital Radio, and the Guide Dogs Association.

Susan Smith, organiser of the event and member of St Mary’s Choir Guild, said: “It was a very successful day. Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves and raise a lot of money for their chosen charities.

“It remained very busy throughout the day and were all extremely happy with the turnout.”

St Mary’s Choir Guild raised £423, which will help pay for new instruments and teaching, and contribute to the organ repair fund.
