A DIESEL fuel spill sparked a crash in Rastrick.
A vehicle had left a trail of fuel on New Hey Road, from Ainley Top to the junction with Dewsbury Road, Rastrick, on Monday morning.
The vehicle - possibly a JCB-style excavator - had then turned left towards Elland.
A Ford Fiesta skidded on the fuel and was in a head-on collision with a car on Dewsbury Road at 10.45am.
No-one is thought to have been badly hurt.
Sub-Officer Rodger Binns, of Elland fire station, said: "The fuel made the road extremely dangerous.
"Cars were skidding when trying to pull away up the hill."
Kirklees Council's highways department gritted the road.
Pc Paul Saxby, of Calderdale traffic police, said: "We have not yet managed to trace the vehicle which spilled the fuel. But we have had reports it was a JCB-style excavator.
"If anyone saw it we would be grateful for a call."
