A YOUNG man had to be cut from a wrecked car after a crash at Oakes.

The 19-year-old, from Bradley, suffered a broken wrist in the collision on New Hey Road at 2.30am on Saturday.

He was the passenger in a Rover 220, which hit a Vauxhall Corsa parked near the roundabout outside the Bay Horse pub.

The Rover, travelling towards Huddersfield town centre, crashed into the rear of the Corsa.

The driver of the Rover left on foot before police and firefighters from Huddersfield and Elland reached the scene.

Firefighters used cutting gear to remove the roof from the Rover and forced open the door to free the passenger.

He was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.
