A DRIVER killed in a horror crash on the M62 near Outlane comes from Iran.

Samad Jamal Khani, who was living in Bradford, died when the Vauxhall Vectra he was driving was in collision with a black BMW Z4 sports car and then smashed into a lamp-post at about 3.20am on Tuesday.

The smash left the car unrecognisable and Mr Khani was declared dead at the scene.

A 28-year-old passenger who was in the car was flung out and suffered serious injuries.

He comes from Coventry and is in a stable condition in Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

The BMW driver, a 29-year-old man from Doncaster, was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and later released on police bail.

Mr Khani had been in the UK since 2001 and is believed to have been claiming asylum.

It is understood he and a friend had been in Manchester celebrating the Iranian New Year and were returning to Bradford when the tragedy happened.

His brother and sister have been traced in Iran and told of his death.
