POLICE have appealed for witnesses to a hit- and-run crash.

A 27-year-old from Cowcliffe was arrested after three people were hurt in the incident at Blacker Road, Birkby, near the Spinks Nest pub, at 8.30pm on Sunday.

He was later released on police bail pending further inquiries.

He had been suspected of driving while unfit through drink or drugs and failing to stop after an accident.

A VW Golf car hit a parked car during the Birkby incident and then collided with three pedestrians - a woman and two men.

At first it was thought all three had escaped with relatively minor injuries, but further hospital tests have shown that one of the men suffered a fractured pelvis.

Police want to talk to anyone who may have seen the incident, the Golf stopping further down the road or a man running away. Ring Pc Dean Brown on 01484 436847.
