CRIME and rising council tax bills are the two biggest concerns of Holme Valley residents, a Tory party activist has discovered.

Amanda Harland, Conservative parliamentary spokesman for the Colne Valley, has met with people from Jackson Bridge, Hepworth and Holmfirth on a fact-finding mission to discuss issues affecting them.

She said: "Over the coming weeks I will be arranging similar meetings throughout the Colne Valley where I can informally meet with people and listen to their experiences.

"The Conservatives are currently carrying out a nationwide consultation on the delivery of public services.

"We want to engage people from all walks of life in this process."

Of 500 people questioned around Huddersfield, many wanted to see more bobbies on the beat.

Nearly two-thirds of respondents also said they were not getting value for money from their council tax.
