THE retail park at Birstall will have a high-visibility police presence this weekend.

Officers will be giving out crime prevention advice and leaflets to shoppers at the complex, just off Junction 27 of the M62.

The aim is to get simple crime prevention tips across to cut down on car crime.

Dewsbury police's crime prevention officer, Pc Colin Whiteley, said: "Vehicle crime is a concern throughout the division.

"Although the number of offences is dropping, we still need to be vigilant and not give criminals the opportunity to steal valuables left in vehicles.

"We also need to prevent the theft of vehicles by educating people about security and crime prevention," added Pc Whiteley.

Local crime prevention officers can be contacted for help.

Advice is also available on the main West Yorkshire switchboard, number 0845 6060606.
