A woman was threatened with a knife during a street robbery in Huddersfield town centre.

The attack happened at 1.30am on Tuesday morning when the woman was approached in Byram Steet by a man who produced a knife and demanded cash.

The woman, fearing for her safety, handed over cash to the man who drove off in a sliver car which was parked on the street.

The victim had seen the men earlier that day when one of them had approached her and offered to sell her goods – but she refused.

Det Insp Ian Thornes, of Kirklees, said: “We are appealing for witnesses to this incident in which a woman has been approached by a man in the market in which he has offered to sell her goods. Although the woman did not buy anything from the man he and another male later threatened her with a knife and made off with cash from her.

“I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed either of these men in the car, outside the Barclays bank or in Huddersfield market. They are both described as having Irish accents and may well have been distinctive.”

The first suspect is white, in his early 30s, about 6ft tall and of a broad build. He wore a black tracksuit, had black hair and spoke with an Irish accent.

The second man is also white, aged over 35 and has a large scar under his right cheek. He wore a grey top and spoke with an Irish accent.
