Police investigating a shooting incident in the Hillhouse area of Huddersfield carried out searches in Crosland Moor and Fartown overnight.

They swooped on the addresses after the window of a home in Hammond Street was shot at in the early hours of Wednesday. A father and his adult son are believed to live there.

Det Insp Ian Thornes, of Huddersfield CID, said: “Police investigating the discharge of a firearm at an address on Hammond Street in the Hillhouse area of Huddersfield carried out searches at properties overnight in Crosland Moor and Fartown.

“No arrests have been made at this stage but enquiries are ongoing and I would still like to hear from anyone with information who may be able to assist the investigation.

“I’d also like to thank local residents for their support as we carried out our work overnight.

“The presence of firearms officers can be upsetting but given the nature of the offence we are investigating this was a necessary precaution.”

Det Insp Thornes added that it was not yet possible to say how many shots were fired at the window or whether they came from someone on foot or in a moving car.

One woman who lived a couple of doors away from where the incident took place told the Examiner she heard a car being driven very fast up the street at the time of the shooting.

Police believe it was a targeted attack and forensic officers were busy examining the scene yesterday.
