A HUDDERSFIELD schoolgirl has won a trip to the House of Commons.

Hafsah Waheed (above), a Year 10 pupil at Moor End Academy in Crosland Moor, scooped the Write Now prize.

The competition is organised by the Parliamentary Press Gallery to inspire young people to think about how politics affects everybody’s lives.

Hafsah won in the Year 10-11 category by describing why the people of Huddersfield should vote for her as mayor.

Hafsah and five other winners will visit the House of Commons in the next two months.

They will spend the day in the Parliamentary Press Gallery and receive certificates from the Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow.
