A park lake will be turned into a dramatic ball of fire.

Crow Nest Park in Heckmondwike Road, Dewsbury, will host There Will Be Fire, described as a “fire and light experience” centred on the park lake.

The newly-restored lake will be ablaze with 1,000 flaming candles, 10 animated fountains and 21 floating water lilies.

The after-dark event was held for the first time last year, attended by more than 2,000 people.

Festive scents of cinnamon and cardamom, burning from a special spice tree, will fill the air while live saxophone and harp music will provide a haunting soundtrack.

The event, on Thursday December 3, is organised by North Kirklees creative arts organisation Creative Scene with help from Holmfirth-based fire artists pa-BOOM.

Creative producer Rebecca Legg said this year’s event would be bigger and better and added: “This year pa-BOOM have been tasked with designing brand new fire elements and structures designed specifically for the lake in Crow Nest Park.

“These will be brand new, never before seen elements that will truly transform the lake for a magical evening for all the family.”

More than 100 children from Dewsbury primary schools including Westmoor, Boothroyd Academy, St Paulinus and Eastborough have been involved along with students from Batley School of Art and volunteers from the Friends of Crow Nest Park.

Dewsbury Museum, based in the park, will be open on the night and the new Crow Nest Park Cafe will serve pie and peas and refreshments.

Entry to the event, which runs from 5pm-8pm, is free but car parking is limited.
