Classic car fans got a treat this week when Dewsbury’s Crow Nest Park provided the backdrop for the Yorkshire Thoroughbred Car Club’s Spring Show.

The event on a sunny Bank Holiday Monday saw a record turnout of more than 200 cars, which attracted about 2,500 to 3,000 visitors to the park. The recent dry weather meant that cars could additionally be displayed on the grass around the Bandstand, making for a compact show with many delights for visitors.

The oldest car present was a 1928 cream Ford Phaeton, which won last year’s top prize. This year, the main award went to a superbly presented metallic green 1973 Ford Escort Mark 1, which was entered by Alan Binns, of Newmillerdam, near Wakefield.

Alan said the one previous owner of the car, which has only 9,500 miles on the clock, liked to be kept in touch with her former car’s exploits. “I’ll be contacting her to tell her it won,” said Alan, who initially had some difficulty persuading its Bournemouth owner to part with her treasure.
