It was a day beset by technical issues and the weather wasn’t the greatest but the show did go on.

M-Fest, a 10-hour music festival at Mirfield’s showground yesterday featured more than a dozen rock, folk and ska/punk groups, many with close links to the town.

Event organiser Donal O’Driscoll had always said it would be a “massive undertaking” given that the first festival at a new venue is always “the toughest one to organise”, and he wasn’t proved wrong.

Mr O’Driscoll, who also organises the always popular Crown of Lights Music Festivals in Heckmondwike, said: “We have been beset by technical issues and with all the rain falling over the weekend it has been challenging.

“However, we have had a great crowd and a lovely atmosphere and I am delighted at how people reacted.

“I couldn’t have asked for more and considering the awful weather we have been having I am very pleased with the turn out.”

The festival was opened by students from Castle Hall Academy then followed by 15 other acts including Jasmine Wilkinson, Jeepster, Ska House, Liberate, Emerald City Underground, Propane Penny, Further From The Truth and Twist of Fate.

Other acts included The Little Big Band and the Blind Dead McJones Band from Leeds, Alex Quinn and The Man In The Street from Holmfirth, Roger Davies from Brighouse and Young Amphibians and String Villains from Heckmondwike.

As well as live music there was face painting, fairground rides and free circus and acrobatic activities.
