A NEW drop-in centre where people can meet each other and get advice was officially opened in Golcar.

Colne Valley MP Kali Mountford is pictured cutting the tape at the launch of the latest development at the By and Buy community shop in Sycamore Court.

The centre will act as a place where villagers can pop in for a tea or coffee and also get advice from professionals.

Health visitors use it on Thursday afternoons and neighbourhood wardens on Wednesday afternoons.

Liberal Democrat Clr Mary Granger holds a surgery every last Thursday in the month, from 3pm to 4pm.

A plea has been made for volunteers to come forward and help keep the centre open for longer.

Susan Starr, one of the centre's organisers, said: "The drop-in centre aims to be an open door within the community.

"Local people can come in for a chat and a tea or coffee and some company in pleasant surroundings.

"And professionals have a place where they can come to meet local people and offer advice."
