A CURATE plans to run the London marathon - with the support of his church.

The Rev Eddie Wynn, curate at St James's, Flockton, and St Michael's, Emley, set himself the target of running the marathon before he reached his 40th birthday. He is now 38.

Mr Wynn has been training since last autumn and he now manages a half-marathon run once a week.

Parishioners have been very supportive of their curate, who is running to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

He has already raised more than £1,000 and he hopes to raise a lot more for the charity.

But though he refuses to dress up for the occasion.

He said: "I am not wearing fancy dress or running in my robes, I am going to wear as little as possible.

"Someone did suggest that I run only in my dog collar but I think that could get me arrested."

As part of his fundraising there will be a coffee morning in Flockton on March 9 from 10am to noon.

A musical evening will be held at the Emley church on March 20 and there will be a concert by Emley Band there on April 24.
