A cyclist who suffered a head injury after being thrown from his bike in Fartown remains in a “serious” condition.

The man, aged 62 and from Huddersfield, was knocked unconscious after a collision with a Range Rover Evoque in Bradford Road, near the junction with Ashbrow Road, at 12.30pm on Friday.

West Yorkshire Police said the man, who has not been named, was in a “serious” condition at Leeds General Infirmary.

The Range Rover driver, a woman aged 70, was shocked but unhurt.

Workers from a nearby firm, Wilco Motosave, rushed to the scene to help the injured cyclist. Witnesses said he was not wearing a helmet.

It is understood the cyclist was travelling downhill towards Huddersfield town centre and was manoeuvring to turn right with his arm out when the collision happened.

The road was partially closed for a time. Police accident investigators returned to the scene on Saturday morning to continue their inquiries.

Police have appealed for witnesses to contact PC Rick Collins at the West Yorkshire Roads Policing Unit via 101.
