A RAIL action group is to find out next week whether its campaign to get a direct rail link from Bradford to London will continue.

Halifax and District Rail Action Group will hold its annual general meeting on Monday at the Nalgo Social Club below Northgate House in Halifax.

Guest speaker at the meeting, which starts at 7.30pm, will be Ian Yeowart - managing director of York-based Grand Central Railway Company.

Grand Central are the company which is hoping to begin running services from Bradford to London, via Halifax and Brighouse.

The company recently had its application to run the service turned down by the Office of Rail Regulation.

But Mr Yeowart is expected to reveal on Monday whether or not they will pursue their goal.

Members of Hadrag want Grand Central to keep trying for permission, because they believe it is unfair for people to have to travel to Wakefield or Leeds to get a connection to the capital.

Secretary Peter Davies said: "For now Grand Central are saying they have not lost interest in West Yorkshire. It is the hope of HADRAG that they will try again to get a service running but we will find out on Monday just what the future holds."
