A FATHER from Mirfield has been killed and his 12-year- old son injured in a crash on one of Britain's major roads.

Paul Takvam, 59, died when his articulated lorry careered through the central reservation on the A14 in Suffolk in the early hours of Saturday.

He died at the scene and his son, Ethan, who was in the cab, suffered facial injuries.

Ethan was said to be in a comfortable condition at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge today.

No other vehicle was involved in the tragedy and Suffolk Constabulary have appealed for witnesses.

A spokesman said: "The accident happened at 3.15am on Saturday on the westbound carriageway of the A14 near Gazeley.

"The lorry crossed the central reservation and went across the eastbound carriageway before crashing on to a smaller road."

The road, linking the Midlands to the busy ports of Felixstowe and Harwich, was closed for 12 hours.
