A man was left with bare cupboards after his Tesco food delivery failed to show-up.

Dalton resident Duncan Osborne was left fuming after waiting up until late on a Sunday evening with not even a carton of milk in the hope his food shop, which he booked and was told would arrive in between 9pm and 10pm, would arrive.

Mr Osborne, of Coule Royd, now wants answers over the incident, that not only left his family hungry, but also left them £86 out of pocket after he was made to pay for his delivery so that the order could be processed. He claims he was told the van driver had gone home.

Mr Osborne, 59, said: “We had nothing at all to eat in the house because we were expecting the delivery. But it just didn’t show up at all. We thought it would be a quick and easy way to get our shopping, so I just couldn’t believe it.

“I rang Tesco on Monday morning and explained what had happened and they said that they had no record that there had been a problem with the delivery.”

They attempted to rearrange the delivery for Tuesday, but Mr Osborne insisted that they come sooner.

“I exploded and said waiting that long wasn’t acceptable and they rearranged it for Monday night, a whole day longer than we had booked.

“But I then cancelled it because it was just too long to wait for our food and we had to fork out for another shop at a different supermarket.

“It’s shocking that such a big chain will not correct its mistakes as soon as possible, especially when there are local stores not that far away.”

Tesco told him it would take three days to refund him the £86, but have not offered him any other compensation for the error.

He said: “I’m out of work at the moment so money is really tight — having to pay for two shops has made things quite difficult”.

Commenting on the incident, a Tesco spokesman, said: “Mr Osborne has now been refunded and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
