Police are hunting three masked robbers who struck in Dalton.

The robbers attacked the Tesco store in Long Lane shortly before 11pm last night and left staff terrified after threatening them with a rifle and iron bars.

No-one was hurt but the two women and a man working at the store were left badly shaken.

Police said the thugs got away with cash and cigarettes and ran off along Tolson Crescent.

Detectives have appealed for information from anyone who may have seen the three robbers either before or after the attack.

Det Insp Jim Griffiths, of Huddersfield CID, said: "They may well have been loitering outside the shop in the run-up to the robbery at 10.45pm or they may even have been inside earlier, taking a look around.

"We believe they ran off along Tolson Crescent and there is no evidence that they had a vehicle.

"None of the staff were injured but it was obviously a frightening incident and they were all shaken up".

One of the robbers was carrying a long-barrelled rifle, which may have been an air weapon.

Both of the others had iron bars and all three had their faces masked.

Police said one robber was white, about 5ft 6in tall and slim, with a black hoodie pulled up over his head.

A second was white and in his teens, about 5ft 6in tall, and wore dark clothing.

The third was slightly taller than the other two.
