A Meltham teenager is dancing for joy after being cherry picked to go to the final of a major UK dance contest.

Ben Holloway is getting ready to rock the crowds when he takes to the stage to perform Red’s Breathe Your Life into Me in the contemporary solo category at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens, as part of the Dance Master UK competition.

He was chosen over other contenders when he took part in a qualifying round in Barnsley earlier in the year.

It is a great step forward for the 17-year old, who only picked up his theatre dancing shoes two years ago when he joined the Adele Taylor School of Dance.

He hopes that the event will help him achieve his dream of being accepted into a London-based dance school when he applies in one year’s time.

His teacher, Adele, who runs her school in Dundas Street in Huddersfield, said: “I think that he has done fantastically well considering the short time that he has been dancing.

“He will be competing against people who have been dancing since they were really young so it’s a very big achievement.

“He really loves to dance and he has a massive passion for it.

“I definitely think that he has what it takes to make it and I hope that he reaches his ambition.”

Ben will be competing alongside three of his fellow students at the venue, which also plays host to two other contests on the day.

Eloise Gledhill, 16, will vie for the top spot in the Miss Dance of Great Britain contest, whilst 12 year old Leah Darby and 160year0old Maddie Laughton will compete in categories at the International Ballet Championships.
