HUDDERSFIELD man Mike Dann's team was today poised to win a gruelling 350-mile Arctic race to reach the magnetic north pole.
Mike, 27, and his friends Simon Edmundson and Tim Tottenham, both 26, were in the lead.
They hope to raise £10,000 for the Laura Crane Trust's cancer work.
Delighted staff at the charity were today cheering on the team from their Huddersfield office.
Fundraiser Pam Thornes said: "We're so proud of our boys. They have always insisted that losing is not an option."
The team is carrying a specially designed Laura Crane Trust flag to plant at the finishing line.
Fifteen teams are taking part in the tough Sony Polar Challenge, which began on April 16.
Former Mirfield man Jonny Clayton, 34, is battling for second place.
Jonny, who now lives in London, is with friends Alex Tate and Stephen Goodair, both from Horbury, near Wakefield.
They are braving the Arctic wastes dressed as Elvis Presley lookalikes.
