A COMPANY delayed a Huddersfield man’s dream of starting his own business.

Danny Askham, of Lindley, wanted to withdraw his lump sum from Legal and General Pensions to start a business with his sons.

He first asked for the £2,000 in February, but didn’t receive it until April 5.

Mr Askham, 52, said: “For two months they prevaricated through red tape, gobbledegook and misleading information.

“Whenever I gave them the relevant information I was put to the back of yet another two-week waiting list.

“I can only conclude that they were waiting for April 1 to arrive so they could have another interest-fuelled bonus.”

Mr Askham will use the money to set up a landscape gardening business with sons Daniel and John.

The former carer and window fitter had been a Legal and General customer for 15 years.

Mr Askham said: “All those adverts promising comfort in one’s latter years can only be a huge con which swells the coffers of the wealthy conglomerates.

“If I was young enough to take out a new pension the money would have been exiting my account on the due date.”

Legal and General refused to comment.
