DAVID Cameron was in Huddersfield and Dewsbury today to kick off the Tories’ campaign for the local elections.

He is seeking to turn a run of favourable polls into concrete progress at the ballot box.

The launch will be held in Dewsbury, after a visit to Emley.

The Tory leader will be hoping to achieve breakthroughs in other parts of the North which are not traditionally Conservative.

He is expected to stress the Tories’ commitment to the environment and housing issues.

He will be accompanied by party chairman Caroline Spelman and Shadow communities and local government secretary Eric Pickles.
