A Lindley man has been sentenced after being found guilty of assault following a trial.

David McSheffrey, of College Avenue, was before Kirklees Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The court heard that the incident happened on February 10.

Police were called to an altercation on the Allen Row junction with Gledholt Bank in Paddock.

They arrived to find the victim Faruk Amin bleeding from his nose and top lip.

Lisa Evans, prosecuting, said that he was assaulted by 37-year-old McSheffrey.

Mr Amin was punched and headbutted during a row as he went to McSheffrey’s workplace to collect some property. He pointed McSheffrey out to police and he was arrested.

He claimed that he was acting in self-defence but was found guilty of assault following a trial at the Huddersfield court.

Rachel Sharpe, mitigating, said that the incident was completely out of character for her client.

McSheffrey was ordered to comply with a curfew for seven weeks.

He also has to pay £200 costs and £100 compensation to Mr Amin.
