A TEMPORARY home for a Huddersfield school is opening a day late because of delays in work to get it ready.

The replacement building for Moldgreen Community Primary School was due to open next Monday.

But education chiefs have just announced they were putting off the date until Tuesday.

A spokeswoman said all the school books and other materials were still in boxes, because contractors had finished their work late at the site next to Ravensknowle Park.

She added: "The contractors' failure to complete everything by the due date has meant that the school has had to move in amidst a hive of contractor activity.

"We appreciate the school's need for a full, quiet day to sort things out, understand the building layout and the fire safety system."

Parents have been told of the delay, the spokeswoman added.

The temporary school will accommodate children while the old school building, off The Avenue, is demolished and replaced with a new school.

The temporary school is being cleaned this weekend, ready for the pupils to come in on Tuesday.
