PARENTS are being reminded they have just five weeks if they wish to register their children for schooling in Kirklees.

December 1 is the closing date for applications to start full-time school in September, 2004, or January, 2005.

Parents need to apply to the school of their choice as soon as possible after their child's third birthday.

If a child's fifth birthday is between September 1 and February 29, he or she will be admitted to full-time school in September.

If a child's fifth birthday is between March 1 and August 31, he or she will be admitted to full-time school in January.

Parents have to complete a Primary Common Application Form (PCAF) for full-time schooling even if they have also applied for a nursery place.

Children do not automatically progress from nursery to full-time schooling.

On the form, parents are asked to name up to three Kirklees schools in order of preference.

Parents should apply in person at the school and take their child's birth certificate.

Information is available from schools or the schools admissions section on 01484 225007/8/9.
