A COUNCILLOR who got the same letter twice says Kirklees is wasting money on stamps.
Last Thursday Clr John Smithson got two invitations to a conference next month.
He said: “It’s a total waste of money.”
Both letters were sent second-class through the Royal Mail on February 19.
They took two days to travel about 200 yards, from Grey Horse Yard on Chapel Hill,. Huddersfield, to Crown Court Buildings on Princess Street.
The letters invited Clr Smithson to a conference on development at the Galpharm Stadium on March 13.
The Almondbury ward Lib Dem said: “The invitation should have been sent in the internal mailing system or emailed. It’s ridiculous to send me two letters.
“If it has happened to me you can bet it has happened to a lot of other people.”
A council spokesman said: “Clr Smithson was on an extensive mailing list of invitees to the conference.
“In offices across Kirklees mail is put into one of three bags; first-class, second-class or internal.
“Obviously in this case the wrong bag was used. The fact that Clr Smithson received the letter twice was the result of a clerical error.”
