A MAN fell to his death from a motorway bridge and brought commuter traffic chaos.
The unnamed man fell from the road bridge spanning the M1 at junction 37 at Dodworth in Barnsley at about 10.30pm.
Police shut a stretch of the northbound carriageway leading to junction 38 at Bretton as they investigated the tragedy.
Vehicles throughout the night were diverted up the slip road and across the junction 37 roundabout before getting back on to the M1.
The carriageway was eventually reopened just before 7.15 this morning.
South Yorkshire Police are now appealing for witnesses after the man's body was struck by "several vehicles" after falling on to the road.
Police are keen to speak to the driver of a green Skoda which was seen to stop at the scene.
Any witnesses to the incident are asked to call South Yorkshire Police on 0114 2202970.
